They splash in the waves until the sky starts to blush. For dinner, my husband Bryan, the kids and I head for the boardwalk and nosh on foot-long hotdogs. The neon lights of the arcades beckon, and we play several rounds of Skeeball. “I won a million dollars!” Hudson says, as his machine spits out tickets. Actually, Hudson wins a dozen souvenir pencils. But we share his sentiment about Visiting feeling flush. For us, visiting Hampton Hampton Beach Beach – and all of our other favorite family always results in hangouts in New Hampshire – always results a rich vacation. in a rich vacation. On one long weekend, we can ride trains, waves, rollercoasters, cruise boats, gondolas and even Cinderella’s pumpkin coach. And we don’t need to bust our budget to do it. On a two-night Granite State getaway, we tend to spend one night south of Concord and one night north, but we ultimately let weather and wanderlust guide us. Because our top spots are accessible to major highways, we can easily ricochet between venues. < GET SMART New Hampshire’s family-friendly museums make learning fun. At the CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF NEW HAMPSHIRE in Dover, kids can build and launch their own flying machines (www.childrens-museum.org). The SEE SCIENCE CENTER in Manchester features two floors of hands-on exhibits exploring electricity, gravity and sound waves (www.see-sciencecenter.org). At the MCAULIFFE-SHEPARD DISCOVERY CENTER in Concord, families can view multimedia, space-related shows in a 40-foot domed theater (www.starhop.com). The NASHUA HISTORICAL SOCIETY features the Florence H. Speare Memorial Museum, where children can learn to use antique postal machines and view Native-American artifacts (www.nashuahistoricalsociety.org).
