New Hampshire Official Travelers Handbook 2009-2010 - (Page 23) By Gretchen Heilshorn A writer returns for a grand, cultural tour Setting aside the obvious tugs at one’s heartstrings, like family and old friends, there was something else pulling me back to New Hampshire after more than a decade living out West. Put simply, it was aesthetics. To this native of Gilford, a village set on Lake Winnipesaukee, there’s a lot to be said for the comforting sight of a gorgeous New England town complete with a white clapboard church steeple, an old general store and historic homes dressed in weathered cedar shingles. To me, it’s not a postcard. It’s To me, it’s not a home. And it’s where my affinity for arts postcard. It’s home and culture blossomed. Now that I’m back, it’s time to get out and for arts blossomed. soak it all in. I want to see how some of the grand old standbys are fairing and discover what’s new along the way. So, let’s go.
