Raised in South Texas, Kathryn began visiting San Antonio as a child. She graduated from Trinity University there and married her husband in the Alamo City. Her favorite quintessential San Antonio experience is a late-night “nacho run” to the famous Mexican restaurant Mi Tierra. RON BECHTOL is either a food, wine and travel writer who happens to practice architecture, or an architect who spends a good deal of time eating and drinking around the globe. He has a degree in architecture from MIT and has had his own practice in San Antonio since 1973, counting the Alamo among his clients. He has written for the San Antonio Express-News, San Antonio Current, Texas Highways, the Zagat Guide and online restaurant guide gayot.com. Writer and travel photographer MELANIE YOUNG has spent more than 20 years covering the most exciting places in the world, including her hometown of San Antonio. Her work has appeared in guidebooks, newspapers and magazines, including Modern Bride, Boston Herald, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, San Antonio Express-News and Frommer’s travel guides. In 1995 she won the Pluma de Plata, Mexico’s top award for travel writing. A member of the Society of American Travel Writers, she speaks Spanish and French and still has many countries to go. ART STRICKLIN is an award-winning Texas golf writer who has penned three books on golf in Austin and San Antonio. His work has been published in dozens of national, regional and international publications including Sports Illustrated, Texas Monthly, Texas Golfer, Reuters and the British Open program. He has won dozens of awards including Texas writer and story of the year, and has been nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in Public Service. He has played a majority of the state’s 800-plus golf courses and owns an unlimited supply of golf hats, towels, logo shirts, a shaky 14 handicap and one hole-in-one.
