But you can hit the highlights over the course of several days. Here, a player can tackle both the Palmer Course, which features one of the hilliest layouts in the city, then (after a poolside lunch) trek next door to the Resort Course, which is the annual fall home of the PGA TOUR’s Texas Open. Dinner at the original Rudy’s BBQ in nearby Leon Springs is a great way to cap off your first night. San Antonio has so much more to offer. For more information, including listings of attractions, accommodations, restaurants and shopping, check out visitsanantonio.com DAY TWO: Tackle the 27 holes of golf designed by architect Arthur Hills at the Hyatt Hill Country Resort and Spa. This is truly guilt-free golf, since the kids can splash happily in a meandering mile-plus Lazy River and any non-golfers in your party can head over to Wildflower, the largest golf resort spa in the city. Meet them for lunch at Papa Ed’s Watering Hole or later that evening for s’mores cooked over the resort’s fire pit. DAY THREE: Play historic courses starting with Brackenridge Park Golf Course north of downtown. Opened in 1916 as the first public 18-hole golf course in Texas, it was designed by the renowned A.W. Tillinghast and was the original site of the PGA Winter Tour. For lunch swing by the Liberty Bar, housed in a 100-yearold leaning building. Then head south to play Pecan Valley, designed by the legendary Press Maxwell. End the day with dinner at one of the city’s oldest Mexican restaurants, La Fonda on Main. DAY FOUR: Start out just south of the airport at The Quarry Golf Club and the highly unique back nine holes, designed by Keith Foster, inside the walls of the former Alamo Cement Plant. After lunch at the Quarry Grill it’s time to head north a few miles to play Canyon Springs, located on some of the highest land in the area at the site of a former Pony Express stop. Dinner tonight is at another San Antonio original, the legendary Paesanos on the River Walk with its must-have Shrimp Paesano.
