Family trips to the Sunshine State are and have been an American tradition. Here, a look back at travel through the decades. 1. Modern conquistadors. In this undated photo taken along Interstate 75 by photographer Karl E. Holland, a Spanish “settler” places a bumper sticker promoting some sort of Spanish-themed travel. 2. Eagle watching, Hobe Sound, undated: Here, a family looks for eagles at Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound. This Florida State Park north of West Palm Beach is still known for its bald eagles. 3. Monkey in the Everglades: In this 1930s photo, a family finds a monkey on the roadside in the Everglades. 4. Welcome sign, 1947: In this photo, a family happens to stop by a Florida welcome sign to look at their Florida map. 5. Lake Talquin fishing, 1957: In this photo, two children from a family named Naggiars fish at Lake Talquin State Park near Tallahassee. 6. Gentle Ben filming, 1967: The CBS television show Gentle Ben was filmed in Florida by the Ivan Tors Studio and ran from 1967 to 1969. The family show starred Dennis Weaver as an Everglades park ranger.
