US 1 (Federal Highway), I-95, I-595, I-75, the Florida Turnpike and Sawgrass Expressway connect the region to the rest of the state and nation. All major rental car companies operate in Greater Fort Lauderdale including Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, E-Z RentACar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Royal and Thrifty at the airport. Taxi and limousine companies operate in the region. GO Airport Shuttle*, the shared ride and private car provider at FLL, offers door to door transportation (954-561-8888 www.floridalimo.com). A unique form of transportation is the scheduled Water Taxi service (954-467-6677) which travels the Intracoastal Waterway and New River. Broward County Transit buses (weekly pass $8; 954-357-8400) crisscross the region. Ride Tri-Rail, the 67-mile commuter railroad with modern double-decker cars, connects Greater Fort Lauderdale with Palm Beach and Miami-Dade. Six stations are located in Greater Fort Lauderdale and free shuttle buses connect to the airport (800-TRI-RAIL), to Palm Beach or to Miami-Dade.
