Paradise Coast Official Visitors Guide 2009 - (Page 3) NAPLES, MARCO ISLAND & THE EVERGLADES Executive Director welcome to the Paradise Coast Our beautiful and diverse area has long been referred to as paradise by residents and visitors, and once you’ve spent more than a few hours here I’m sure you’ll understand why. We have over 30 miles of white sand beaches stretching from Barefoot Beach Preserve on the northern border of Collier County to Naples Beach throughout the downtown area, as well as Marco Island’s four miles of white sandy shores, and numerous nearby barrier island beaches easily accessible by boat, stretching down into the Gulf Coast portion of Everglades National Park. While our award-winning beaches are certainly a compelling lure for visitors, there is so much else to see and do in the area, so you’ll want to make some time to explore the other fascinating points of interest and attractions. Naples was named the #1 Small Art Town in America just a few years ago, based on the strength of the local arts and culture scene. Shopping is another compelling lure for many to the area. From one-of-a-kind fashion boutiques to the nation’s top luxury retailers and outstanding thrift and consignment shopping, you’ll find plenty of treasures. Dining is outstanding, with a growing number of locally owned, independent restaurants providing an eclectic mix of menus only found along the Paradise Coast and frequently featuring our delicious fresh Gulf seafood and regional produce. Families will find fun and educational shows and exhibits at the nationally accredited Naples Zoo. Dolphin watch cruises, Segway tours and Everglades airboat rides are also popular with families. Since Naples and Marco Island are surrounded by the Big Cypress Basin portion of the Everglades ecosystem, there are some pristine wilderness locations nearby that offer outstanding outdoor recreation and wildlife viewing. Whether your desire is for fun, adventure or relaxation, I’m sure you’ll find it during your time on the Paradise Coast.
