The Raccoon Creek State Park (near the Pennsylvania/Ohio border) is a botanical wonderland, while come wintertime, Laurel Ridge State Park (south of Ligonier) comes alive with cross-country skiers forging portions of the 70mile mountaintop Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. View the Susquehanna River and surrounding farmland from Mount Pisgah, an 885-foothigh ridge in Samuel S. Lewis State Park (east of York). Or stroll through Larkins Covered Bridge and along Marsh Creek State Park (near Downingtown). > SO WHATCHA WANNA DO ON ROUTE 30 IS… Begin at Pittsburgh’s Fort Pitt Museum, situated in the restored Monongahela Bastion; it offers compelling tours and programs. Stroll the grounds of Point State Park, the recipient of a $35 million revitalization project which will include new benches, paved walkways, stage area and upgraded interpretive history sites. Step back in time to an era of refinement at the Frick Art & Historical Center in Point Breeze. Allow for time at the Frick Art Museum, home to a collection of Italian Renaissance and Flemish masterpieces. Take a tour of Pittsburgh from the river on the Gateway Clipper Fleet that sets sail from the southern bank of the Monongahela River at Historic Station Square. Then stop by the National Aviary to see more than 600 birds, many of them rare or endangered. For more family fun, get water-logged at Idlewild and SoakZone in Ligonier. History buffs shouldn’t miss the reconstructed and restored Fort Ligonier, with the world’s finest archeological artifacts from the French and Indian War, and Fort Bedford Museum, with extensive Native American artifacts and pioneer tool displays. Or learn about local history and early settlers at the Chambersburg Heritage Center. 22 800 . VISIT. PA visitPA.com http://www.visitPA.com
