Alt. 19 Ride down the middle of two brick streets through the historic port town of Tarpon Springs. Be sure to stop at the old railroad station and take a quick side trip to the world-famous sponge docks, where you can watch fishermen unload their day’s catch. You won’t find a better place for Greek food. THE CHARMS OF DUNEDIN Built in 1990 along an abandoned CSX railroad line, “The Trail” was championed by citizens and long-time, former Pinellas County Administrator Fred Marquis. Marquis thought the pathway would unite the county. Today, the 40-mile trail is one of the most heavily used greenway corridors in the U.S. HONEYMOON ISLAND P 586 Mile 25 BREATHTAKING VIEWS CALADESI ISLAND DUNEDIN P P The scenery is as varied as the people you’ll meet along the way. Start on the pristine banks of the Anclote River, then soak up the quaint, small-town feel of downtown Dunedin, and now, thanks to a recently opened spur in St. Petersburg, you can even experience the chic urbanity of that rising city on the bay, all in one day. 580 Mile 22 Stop by the old railroad car/caboose on the trail next to the Dunedin Historical Society, now located in the city’s original railroad station. One of the most popular lunch spots in Pinellas County, Dunedin has no shortage of great places to eat and shop. Afterward, head over to Edgewater Park and stroll along the waterfront. KEY P Public parking Bike shops Trail Spur The trail has a number of overpasses. They will get your heart pumping, but be sure to stop at the top of each one. You’ll get a breathtaking view of the Intracoastal at the one between Dunedin and Palm Harbor. Keep a look out for osprey and other sea birds as you cross the bayou into St. Petersburg.
