St. Augustine Ponte Vedra 2008 Travel Planner - (Page 15) Schooner Freedom AN ARTISTIC UPGRADE Historic Flagler College has such strong ties to the past that even its new art museum is old. The Crisp-Ellert Art Museum, the latest addition on campus, resides in a 19th-century home. Shortly before artist and author Dr. JoAnn Crisp-Ellert’s death in January 2007, she and her husband, Robert Ellert, donated their historic house and an adjoining art studio, along with their art collection, to the college. Her paintings have been featured in numerous galleries, as well as in private and institutional collections around the country. The museum, equipped with state-of-the-art lighting and security, doubles the space of the Carrera Gallery, Flagler’s previous location for exhibits. With the new facility, two or more collections now can be showcased at once. Both students’ and visiting artists’ works make up the museum’s displays. In 2008, various art exhibits and events will take place, such as B.F.A. Student Shows, book signings and Alumni Weekend. Lectures and other community offerings will also be held throughout the year. The Crisp-Ellert Art Museum is located at 48 Seville St. on the Flagler College campus. Hours are noon to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, while classes are in session.
