The resort offers 149 guest rooms, but invites day guests. The spa is relatively new to the area, but friends who had visited highly recommended it. We’re quickly escorted into a private room where warm berry tea soothes our spirits and a eucalyptus steam treatment has been prepared to soothe our sore back muscles. The relaxation room is a perfect cocoon-like circle with ambient lighting and a waterfall raining down at the center to a rock basin. An hour-long facial and an equally long massage later, my mom and I lounge by the pool, glowing like angels. Retail therapy is needed to complete our getaway. We start early the next morning at Sawgrass Village located midway between Ponte Vedra and our triumphs the day before at TPC Sawgrass. The center has about 20 boutiques and specialty shops and seven restaurants. I create my own signature scent from Bath Junkie with a soap scented of apple and honey. We dine on an ahi salad and flatbread pizza at the Village’s Caffé Andiamo for lunch before heading to The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach. There, the work of “For years to come, this will be our special mother/ daughter hideaway.” regional and national artists is shown, including the likes of sculptor Eric Holt, whose exhibit of contemporary work is on display during our visit, as are photographs by Barbara Miller. Exhibitors in 2008 will include Jay Shoots, a nationally known photographer; oil painter Alison Watson; regional artist Sydney McKenna and mixed media artist Joe Sinclair.
