Do you dare? AD oyd bin B o By R Monday Your vacation starts at Coopers Rock State Forest, where you’ll ride some awesome single-track mountain biking trails. Grab a map at the park office and drive to the “Day Use” lot to pick up Scotts Run Trail, which gets off to a rip-roaring, rocky downhill start. Use the map to plot out the rest, but make sure you go to Rock City, where a trail runs through the middle of some amazing rock formations. Camp at Cooper’s Rock or take your tired backside to a comfy bed at a nearby Morgantown hotel. » Coopers Rock State Forest, 304-594-1561, www.coopersrockstateforest.com Tour the state’s largest caverns, Seneca Caverns, 165 feet below ground at its deepest. Hear dripping water, examine interesting formations and look at their reflections in Mirror Lake. From Seneca Caverns in Riverton, visit Smoke Hole Caverns in nearby Seneca Rocks, another underground marvel with colorful rock formations: stalactites, stalagmites and helectites that grow sideways. Tuesday Wednesday Fuel up with a hearty breakfast before your trip to Spruce Knob, the state’s highest point at 4,861 feet. Huckleberry Trail is a fun, rocky, six-mile descent off of Spruce Knob. It’s well marked, and you can decide how much you want to hike down and back. (Pick up the trailhead near the parking lot.) The incredible scenery will make you forget about the hike back uphill. Well, almost. Drive to Summersville this evening for a well-deserved dinner and stay at a local B&B or country inn. » Spruce Knob, 304-636-1800, www.fs.fed.us/r9/mnf/sp/spruce_knob » Seneca Caverns, 800-239-7647, www.senecacaverns.com. » Smoke Hole Caverns, 800-828-8478, www.smokehole.com Clockwise from top: Biking on Beauty Mountain , Spruce Knob , Seneca Caverns . g h g 38 1-800-CALL WVA http://www.coopersrockstateforest.com http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/mnf/sp/spruce_knob http://www.senecacaverns.com http://www.smokehole.com
