On the other side of the inlet lies Daytona Beach, but to reach it, A1A detours onto the mainland. Cross back onto island turf at Port Orange to drive closer to the waves. On parts of Daytona Beach you can drive on the hard-packed sand, but not around the Daytona Beach Pier, where the waves are most surf-able. http://www.fws.gov/merrittisland http://www.nps.gov/cana http://daytonabeachresort.com http://www.ronjonresort.com http://daytonabeachresort.com http://www.nsbfla.com http://www.nsbfla.com
