The Mineral Point Depot is one of the few surviving pre-Civil War depots in the United States. It is recognized as the oldest depot in Wisconsin, the oldest surviving structure of the Milwaukee Road, and holds the distinction of being the only depot in Wisconsin constructed of stone. After a 6-year restoration, completed in 2004, the Mineral Point Depot reopened as the Mineral Point Railroad Museum with highly detailed exhibits covering 150 years of Southwestern Wisconsin railroad history. Awarded “Best Interpretive Site” in 2005 by the Wisconsin Trust for Historic Preservation, the Mineral Point Railroad Museum promises a uniquely memorable museum experience set in an authentic place that offers the perfect solitude to reflect upon a bygone era. Come ponder the past, mingle with spirits of old, possibly meet a real railroader, swap tales of the rails, and experience the vital role small town depots played in American history. The Mineral Point Railroad Museum is open Sat 10-4, Sun 12-4 (March-April, Nov, Dec) and Thur-Sat 10-4, Sun 12-4 (May-October).
