Military Family Legislative Action Guide - (Page 13) Myth #8: Politicians only give lip service and talk all sides of every issue. tRutH: Only if you and other constituents let them. MOAA can give you tips to improve the chances of getting your legislators to make a real commitment. Persistent, informed military spouses and family members make a huge difference. Where do your legislators stand on issues that are important to you and your family? Ask them. Myth #9: MOAA only works to help officers. TRUTH: Only officers and their families can join MOAA, but we strongly believe that officers have a leadership responsibility to represent the entire military community – officer, enlisted, active duty, Guard/Reserve, retired, veterans and their family members and survivors. MOAA co-chairs The Military Coalition, in which 35 military and veterans associations work for the common good of the entire military community. Myth #10: I’m interested, but the legislative process seems too complicated. TRUTH: That’s why MOAA is here to help! In addition to this guide, MOAA’s Web site (www.moaa.org) provides a wealth of information and resources. Ask for MOAA’s free legislative update (call 1-800-234-MOAA {6622}), and we’ll provide you a weekly e-mail on key issues that affect your family. You’ll get special alerts when key congressional action is pending. MYtHs AND cHALLeNGes MYTHS 13 http://www.moaa.org
