Thank your legislators for past and present support on your issue(s). Tell them the bills or amendments you want them to cosponsor or the issues you want them to support, why it is important and what action you want them to take. Provide a one-page fact sheet on the issue along with your contact information for future communications. Follow up to make sure your representatives sponsored, cosponsored or voted for your bill – don’t be afraid to contact your representatives multiple times to get their attention. Be sure to thank them for their support when they have taken the action they promised. MOAA’s Web site (www.moaa.org) is a great place to start. You’ll find it’s one of the most sophisticated grassroots advocacy tools available anywhere.
