fromtheeditor Another Year In the spirit of the New Year, MOAA has several “new” things to share with you — a new chairman of the board, a new page in the magazine, and some new year’s resolutions to consider. W hat does the future hold? And how can I make the most of it for myself, my family my world? Those are fair questions to ask, this being the start of a new year. Of course, we can’t give you all the answers, but we can — and do — package the January issue of Military Ofﬁcer with an eye to the future. Let’s start at the top. Gen. Michael P.C. Carns, USAF-Ret., newly appointed chairman of the board, gives his assessment of what the future holds for the association on page 12. According to Carns, the many legislative successes MOAA has made in the past are likely to be challenged in coming years. He notes that the association must be relentless in advancing the legitimate concerns of the military member. Along those lines, MOAA’s core mission is to inﬂuence legislation. To see what the coming year might offer in this area, check out “Washington Scene” on page 31. You’ll hear more each month about how things are going, and we’ll be asking for your support in contacting your legislators and mailing the postcards you’ll ﬁnd in future issues. Don’t forget: It’s your voice that matters with your elected ofﬁcials. Those cards and letters count! The New Year being a time for personal introspection and resolution making, we thought we’d give you a few ideas to jumpstart your program. We asked several of our contributors and partners to propose resolutions in their areas of expertise. In 10 MILITARY OFFICER JANUARY 2007 the story “I Resolve,” page 64, you will ﬁnd suggestions to improve your health, build your career, and better your ﬁnancial situation. We also throw in a few resolutions that look to the health of our greater home: planet Earth. Finally, I’d like to talk about the future of your magazine, Military Ofﬁcer. If you have a sharp eye, you’ll have noticed a new page as you thumbed your way to this column. “MOAA Online” will be a monthly table of contents for the association’s online publications. MOAA’s Web Base is home for an array of information. Some of it expands on items in the magazine; some of it is unique. But all of it is continually changing — as only the Web can do. The new online table of contents will help you ﬁnd the “added value” your association experts create that just won’t ﬁt in the ﬁnite magazine pages. Don’t worry, the digital revolution hasn’t yet made print obsolete; rather, print and electronic media will work hand-in-hand to keep you better informed.
