DeMint, who hails from Greenville, is an honorary member of the chapter. Chapter members also participated in the dedication ceremony for Cliffs Veterans Memorial Park in Landrum, S.C. More than 200 citizens and chapter members gathered to dedicate this memorial, which honors area citizens who have served in the armed forces. National MOAA board member Maj. Gen. Patricia P. Chapter Makes Connections M embers of the Greenville (S.C.) Chapter recently acted as a conduit for a $100,000 contribution used to start The Cliffs American Patriot Scholarship Fund. The fund, part of The Scholarship Fund of MOAA’s American Patriot Scholarship Program, will provide college scholarships to the children of military members who died while on active service. “The Cliffs Communities contacted the office of Sen. [Jim] DeMint [R-S.C.] and asked for assistance in establishing a scholarship fund for the children of fallen military members from the Carolinas,” says Lt. Col. Lee Lange II, USMCRet., director of MOAA’s Council and Chapter Affairs Department, presented the official charter for the Greater Louisville Eagles (Ky.) Chapter Inc. Sept. 13 at Lake Forest Country Club in Louisville. The new chapter’s 27 charter members all were in attendance. Following the charter presentation, members adopted a set of bylaws and elected and installed chapter officers. Lange then outlined national MOAA’s goals and reviewed pending legislation that affects military members and their families. He also challenged members to do everything possible to ensure their chapter’s future success. Col. Lawrence Gravely, USA-Ret.; Col. M. Courtland Clayton, USA-Ret.; Col. Chris Smrt, USAR; Lt. Col. Jerry McGraw, USAR-Ret.; and Capt. Greg Reinhardt, USNR-Ret., helped found the chapter, whose motto is “Patriots Serving Patriots.” Currently, the new chapter has 44 members and is growing rapidly. “The founding members sat down and discussed our vision statement, and we are recruiting members using that statement,” says Gravely, who now is chapter president. The chapter’s goals include supporting current and retired veterans’ programs; championing and supporting Junior ROTC and ROTC programs; supporting appropriate legislation; advocating U.S. history in our classrooms; enjoying camaraderie, good food, and good speakers at chapter meetings; and participating in patriotic community activities. The Greater Louisville Eagles Chapter is one of two MOAA chapters in Louisville. The 354-member Louisville Chapter, founded in 1958, also serves officers in the area. MO — Contributors are Col.
