Military Officer - January 2008 - (Page 19) Ready. Aim. Retire. relevant to active duty (where I was), reserve (where I am) and retired officers (where I will one day be). —Col. Kenneth R. Lewis, USAR Charlotte, N.C. Tax Chart, Revisited Colorado is listed under “States with no income tax” [“How Does Your State Rate,” “Chapters in Action,” November 2007]. This would be great if it were true. … Colorado most assuredly does have a state income tax, but there is a retirement income exemption of $20,000 for those between 55 and 65 years of age and a $24,000 exemption for those 65 and older. We appreciate having this partial exemption, but of course it would be much nicer to have a full exemption! —Lt. Col. Art Libby, USA-Ret. Online Banking Fees I think you missed an opportunity for a good recommendation in the article, “Banking on Your Time” [November 2007]. You quote Maryanne Cantrell as saying her bank charges $5 a month for Internet banking service. You should have added a comment that that is $60 a year down the drain. Most banks in [the Virginia] area do not charge for that service, and she should find a more consumer-friendly bank. If fees are common in her area, many national financial institutions such as USAA and Navy Federal Credit Union offer online banking for free. —Capt. W.A. Rawson Jr., USN-Ret. Amissville, Va.
