(member since 1973): In June 2007, this Arizona MOAA Chapter historian flew in a restored P-51 Mustang that bore the codes, colors, and name of “Miss Velma,” the P-51D he piloted in World War II named for Birtciel’s wife. The plane later was part of Operation Bolero II, a July 2007 attempt to recreate a 1942 mission. Polly and Capt. Glenn Hatch, USN-Ret. (member since 1995): Since Glenn’s retirement in 1976, he and Polly have lived on a sailboat while touring the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and the Gulf of Mexico; built a house in Spain; and eventually settled in the San Antonio area. Capt. Sean Hipp, USA (member since 2007): Hipp is a pediatrician and the surgeon for the 1st Squadron, 91st U.S. Cavalry, currently in Afghanistan.
