Read on to learn more about your fellow MOAA members. Lt. Col. Morris Courtright, USAF-Ret. (life member since 1982): Courtright retired from the U.S. Air Force as a major after a career that included work in the manned spacecraft program. He later rejoined the U.S. Civil Air Patrol (CAP), in which he had participated as a youth, and was promoted to lieutenant colonel. In 2006, at age 76, he was ordained as an Independent Catholic priest and is now director of chaplains for the CAP’s Arizona Wing. Lt. Col. Louis W. Crompton, USAFR-Ret. (life member since 1989): Crompton is a volunteer tutor and has assisted children in Hawaii schools for more than 10 years, helping even the most recalcitrant students improve in reading and math. A New Jersey native and former engineer, Crompton also is on the board of directors for the Hawaii State Chapter. Col. Joseph J. Panzarella, USA-Ret. (life member since 1997): Panzarella is a Korean War combat veteran and an avid volunteer. In the past 10 years, he has logged more than 5,000 volunteer hours at the Buffalo VA Medical Center, N.Y. In June 2007, Panzarella received the Distinguished Service Award from the VA for his work with the Veterans History Project, for which he has interviewed hundreds of veterans since 2000. Lt. Col. Michael Parker, USA-Ret. (member since 2007): After a career that included being a civilian police officer and a military counterintelligence and acquisition officer, Parker has become a volunteer advocate for those caught in DoD’s disability evaluation system. “It’s just too darn important,” Parker says of efforts to ensure wounded warriors are evaluated and compensated fairly.
