MEDIPLUS will pay 100% of these “excess charges.” In fact, even if what your doctor charges is above the reasonable and customary charge for your area, MEDIPLUS will cover it after any applicable TRICARE or plan deductibles are met. This protection for excess charges is especially important, since excess charges can’t be applied to TRICARE’s Catastrophic Cap.* Protection for your entire family MEDIPLUS is not just available to you as an MOAA member this money-saving plan is also available to your TRICARE-eligible spouse and children. They can select the same MEDIPLUS plan you have or a different one, depending on their needs. And, MEDIPLUS is even perfect when your kids go off to college. It’s often less expensive than your employerprovided plan, as well as plans offered by colleges and universities. Even if you decide not to enroll yourself in a MEDIPLUS TRICARE Standard or Prime Supplement, you can still sign your family up. After all, it may be a better deal than covering them under another plan. As an MOAA member, you and your family are GUARANTEED ACCEPTANCE in MEDIPLUS. You don’t have to complete a long form or take a medical exam. You’re already in, based on your status as an MOAA member. Your valuable MEDIPLUS protection will start on the first day of the month after your completed EZ Enrollment Form and first premium payment are received. Any new health conditions will be covered right away. If you have an existing health condition, it will be covered as soon as your MEDIPLUS protection has been in force for just six months. (This limitation can be waived in some cases. See the bottom of the next page.) Covered by TRICARE Prime? If you’re covered by TRICARE Prime, MEDIPLUS pays your copayments for inpatient care, outpatient care and prescription drugs. In addition, if you decide to get care from a TRICARE-approved doctor without a referral from your Primary Care Manager (commonly referred to as the TRICARE Point of Service Option), MEDIPLUS TRICARE Prime protection will cover your cost-shares for inpatient and outpatient care after you meet the TRICARE Point of Service deductible. Plus, MEDIPLUS will pay 100% of the difference between what the provider bills you and the TRICARE allowed amount for those expenses. MEDIPLUS pays your outpatient bills When you or a family member has an outpatient doctor visit, TRICARE Standard generally pays 75% of the allowed amount (after you meet the TRICARE outpatient deductible). MEDIPLUS will be there to take care of the rest. After you meet your plan deductible, MEDIPLUS pays the remaining 25% of the TRICARE allowed amount each time you go to the doctor. * TRICARE limits the amount your family would pay in a fiscal year for deductibles and copayments. This protective “cap” is $3,000 for retirees. But, keep in mind that “excess charges” are not applied to this Catastrophic Cap. So, even if you meet the $3,000 limit, you’ll still have to pay excess charges UNLESS YOU HAVE MEDIPLUS. ** Non-insurance services are not arranged for, provided or underwritten by The Hartford. † The annual exam benefit may not be available in all states. Avesis Vision Plan benefits are not available overseas.
