SS’ full retirement age gradually is increasing from age 65 to 67, based on your year of birth. Retirees may enroll in Part B independent of receiving their SS benefits. Although you may defer SS benefits, you still must enroll in Part B to retain TRICARE eligibility. Failure to enroll in Part B upon eligibility results in a penalty of 10 percent of the cost of Part B for each year of delayed enrollment. You may defer enrollment in Part B after age 65 without penalty only if you still are working and are covered by your own or your spouse’s employersponsored health plan. You remain ineligible for TRICARE during this period of work after age 65, but your eligibility will be restored once you enroll in Part B. — Capt.
