Military Officer - March 2008 - (Page 42) chaptersinaction Chapter Achievements From the Field: Hawaii and Aloha (Hawaii) Chapters Hawaii and Aloha (Hawaii) chapter members visited China last November after receiving an invitation from the China Association for International Friendly Contact (CAIFC). Aloha Chapter member Col. Wesley Fong, USAR-Ret., led the delegation as they visited Beijing, Luoyang, and Shanghai and met with military and government officials, including CAIFC Vice President Xing Yunming. “We were very honored to be the first military delegation hosted by the CAIFC to visit China,” says Fong. Read more about this groundbreaking trip at www.moaa.org/caifc. Andrew Jackson (Tenn.) Chapter Last December, MOAA President Vice Adm. Norb Ryan Jr., USN-Ret., chartered the Andrew Jackson Chapter in Lebanon, Tenn., which serves MOAA members who live in eastern Davidson and western Wilson counties. Col. John Lloyd, USAR-Ret., is the new chapter’s president. He currently is the second vice president of the Tennessee Council of Chapters and is a member of the Stones River (Tenn.) Chapter, which helped establish the new chapter. Clearwater (Fla.) Chapter The Clearwater (Fla.) Chapter hosted a golf fund-raiser, raising more than $3,900 for a college scholarship program for the Clearwater High School Junior ROTC unit. More than 80 golfers participated, including 20 active duty servicemembers who played for free thanks to individual sponsors who paid their tournament fees. More than 20 people also paid $20 apiece to attend a luncheon, with the proceeds going to the scholarship program. MOAA Director of Contract Services and Marketing Col. Mike Jordan, USAF-Ret., participated in this inaugural event. Read more about this event at www.moaa.org/ clearwatergolf. Treasure Coast (Fla.) Chapter Last December, former Treasure Coast (Fla.) Chapter President Col. Chuck Winn, AUS-Ret., was present when former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services and University of Miami president Dr. Donna Shalala visited Rep. Duncan Hunter of California to discuss wounded-warrior issues. Hunter was in Florida to participate in a forum cohosted by the university. Winn thanked Shalala for her hard work as cochair of the Commission on Care for America’s Returning Wounded Warriors. Hunter, a Vietnam veteran and ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, has long been a champion of America’s veterans.
