Read on to learn more about your fellow MOAA members. Lt. James N. Phillips Jr., USN-Ret. (member since 2008): Phillips joined the Air Force in 1974 and the Navy in 1986 as a supply corps officer. He retired in 1995. After a brief career in the Boy Scouts of America, he joined the VA as an acquisition professional. A 15-year member of the National Contract Management Association (NCMA), Phillips recently was awarded the NCMA’s Fellow designation, the association’s third-highest award. Kathleen and Lt. Col. Thomas Rodgers, USAF-Ret. (member since 2008): Kathleen Rodgers spent nearly two decades working to craft and sell a book inspired by her husband’s career as a military pilot. The Final Salute (Leatherneck Publishing, 2008) centers on military pilots and their families and is set during the first Gulf War, and the main character is named for a family friend killed in a mid-air collision in 1980. Capt. Alan L. Ross, USN-Ret. (member since 1990): Ross started Heroes Fund Inc. (www.alra.us/heroes_fund.html), the fundraising arm of a group that supports 160 servicemembers deployed to Iraq — presently, the Bulldogs of Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.
