Dave Liniger, cofounder of Re/Max International Inc. and a Vietnam War veteran, had the Center for the Intrepid Opens storied aircraft carrier that served the nation for four decades has become the namesake of the world’s most technically advanced rehabilitation center for the U.S. military’s amputees and burn victims. The Center for the Intrepid — a fourstory, 65,000-square-foot facility adjacent to Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, Texas — and two Fisher House Foundation homes officially were opened during a dedication ceremony Jan. 29. The center’s main departments include the military performance lab, occupational therapy, physical therapy, prosthetics, case management, and behavioral medicine. Physical therapy tools include a treadwall, a 21-foot climbing tower, a track, and a natatorium with a six-lane pool. Also featured at the center is a Flowrider, similar to a wave machine, to help promote balance, strength, motivation, and confidence. winning bid of $1 million. Liniger plans to take the Hummer across the U.S. Proceeds from the sale of Warrior One — which toured military bases and medical centers prior to the auction — go to the Fisher House Foundation, which temporarily houses families of patients receiving major medical care in military hospitals and VA facilities.
