Biank, an Army wife, expands on the story in her book Under the Sabers: The Unwritten Code of Army Wives. What is the “unwritten code of Army wives”? It refers to all that is expected and understood but often is unspoken. At times, military wives have to be strong in the face of adversity — even when they feel like falling apart. I [argue] that these women make their own sacrifices for our nation. Do you think you dwell on the negative aspects of being a military spouse too much in your book? Absolutely not. I think the military community deserves an honest and fair look at things from the inside out. To do anything else, to do some kind of puff piece, I don’t think military people would take it seriously or it would have much meaning to them. Tell me about the TV show you’re working on. Mark Gordon Co. and Touchstone Television are producing 13 episodes about Army wives for Lifetime Television. I’m a consultant for the show, which premieres June 3. It is based on the book, but the characters have different names. It’s a fictional drama, but we deal with real-life issues. — Kris Ann Hegle Korean War Armistice Day Ceremony C eremonies marking the 54th anniversary of the armistice ending the Korean War will be held at 10 a.m. July 27 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
