chaptersinaction Communications Award Winners MOAA council and chapter members know the importance of having great avenues of communication with their members. That’s why MOAA thinks it’s important to recognize them for their efforts. 2007 Winners Announced Each year, national MOAA holds the Communications Award contest to recognize MOAA councils and chapters that do an outstanding job communicating with their members. The addition of three new categories resulted in a record 178 entries that carefully were reviewed by a panel of judges that convened at MOAA’s headquarters in February. MOAA applauds the hard work and dedication shown by the editors, webmasters, and legislative columnists who entered the 2007 Communications Awards and congratulates the winners. Special Communications Award To mark the Year of the Chapter, MOAA established a special Communications Award this year for the El Paso (Texas) Chapter in recognition of its outstanding commitment to foster good communication. The chapter’s print newsletter, The Border Bulletin, contains legislative information and articles of interest to both members and potential members and showcases the many community service projects members undertake. The chapter also publishes an e-newsletter, The Border Bulletin; has a Web site, http://elpasomoaa.org; and distributes its own recruiting brochure, which helped the chapter recruit 424 members in 2007. As a unique communication, the chapter publishes the Special Scholarship Edition newsletter to inform members about efforts to establish a designated scholarship through national MOAA’s Scholarship Fund. Kudos to Maj. E. Dexter Lyerly, USA-Ret., editor of the print The Border Bulletin, and Maj. Edwin S. Stone III, USA-Ret., editor of the electronic The Border Bulletin and the Special Scholarship Edition newsletter. Stone also developed the recruiting brochure and serves as webmaster.
