Chiles, USAR (life member since 1991): In January, Chiles was elected president of Christian Service Charities and Neighbor to Nation, federations that participate in workplace giving. He also is vice president of Resource Development for the Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship Foundation. A Vietnam veteran with more than 38 years of service, Chiles is assigned to the 63rd Regional Readiness Command in Los Alamitos, Calif., and has written articles about African-American warrant ofﬁcers. Cmdr. Michael G. Kapnas, USN-Ret. (life member since 1977): At 18 years and 9 months old, Kapnas was possibly the youngest naval ofﬁcer in World War II. He was born June 24, 1926, and commissioned as an ensign March 29, 1945. He says, “If anyone’s younger, let’s ﬁnd out.” Kapnas is a former board member and treasurer of the Miramar Chapter of MOAA in San Diego. Col. John Riffle, USAF-Ret. (life member since 1993): Entering the U.S. Air Force as a private, Rifﬂe served in Europe and North Africa in World War II, retiring after more than 33 years. He serves on the Missouri Land Reclamation Commission, the Base Community Council for Whiteman AFB, and the Youth in Agriculture Committee and is active in the Missouri Council of Chapters. Maj. Charles B. Whitehurst Sr., USMC-Ret. (life member since 1976): Whitehurst was recognized by President George W. Bush in January, receiving the “Call to Service” award for volunteering more than 7,000 hours since 2001. He followed his 21 years in the Marine Corps with a career in banking and service as an elected ofﬁcial. He’s involved with almost 30 organizations, including the March of Dimes, the Hampton Roads Air Quality Commission, and Church and Community in Action, which he founded.
