ON THE WEB ■ Visit www.moaa.org/ S Intrepid Heroes T he Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund is building a state-of-the-art physical rehabilitation and advanced training skills center at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. The center will open in January 2007. Currently, more than 525,000 Americans have contributed to the fund. Although land for the center has been set aside by the Army and the center will be maintained by the armed services after it is opened, the facility is being funded entirely by contributions from the American people. The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund wants to ensure that those in the armed services understand the American people will never waver in supporting them. For more information, visit www.fallenheroesfund.org. capitalevent New Tax Legislation for Military Personnel O n May 28th, 2006, the Heroes Earned Retirement Opportunities (HERO) Act was signed into law. The act amends the Internal Revenue Code to allow servicemembers assigned to a combatzone tax-exclusion area to contribute to an indiMILITARY OFFICER vidual retirement account (IRA) while continuing to exclude their military compensation from federal income tax. Military compensation earned by members of the armed forces while serving in combat zone areas is excluded from federal income tax. Enlisted mem- bers and warrant officers exclude all such military compensation. Commissioned officers may exclude up to the maximum enlisted pay plus imminent danger pay for the months they serve in a combatzone tax-exclusion area.
