Moses describes the heroism of two American sailors (and many others) as they fought off relentless day and night attacks by waves of German and Italian aircraft, submarines, and torpedo boats. After their freighter was sunk, shipmates Frederick Larsen and Lonnie Dales were rescued, then transferred to a damaged oil tanker for the ﬁnal, perilous run through the enemy gauntlet of bombs, shells, and torpedoes.
