This summary reflects legislators’ status as cosponsors of MOAA-supported bills rather than actual votes on the issues, except as noted in the explanations below. Note 1: Your legislator identification is based on your mailing address in your MOAA membership record unless you have given MOAA a separate voting address. Note 2: Some committee and congressional leaders do not cosponsor bills on issues within their purview. Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) legislation would eliminate the deduction of VA survivor benefits from SBP annuities and/or accelerate implementation of paid-up SBP coverage. A “+” indicates Senate cosponsorship of S. 935 (Nelson, D-Fla.); House cosponsorship of H.R. 784 (Saxton, R-N.J.), H.R. 1589 (Brown, R-S.C.), or H.R. 1927 (Ortiz, D-Texas); or a House vote for H.R. 1585 (FY 2008 Defense Authorization Bill). Concurrent Receipt legislation would eliminate the offset between military retired pay and veterans’ disability compensation. A “+” indicates Senate cosponsorship of S. 439 or S. 986 (Reid, D-Nev.); a Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) vote for S. 1547 (FY 2008 Defense Authorization Bill); House cosponsorship of H.R. 89, H.R. 303, or H.R. 1436 (Bilirakis, R-Fla.) or H.R. 333 (Marshall, D-Ga.); or a House vote for H.R. 1585. Pretax Premiums legislation would allow active and retired servicemembers to pay premiums for TRICARE dental, TRICARE Prime, and TRICARE supplemental insurance on a pretax basis. A “+” indicates Senate cosponsorship of S. 773 (Warner, R-Va.) or House cosponsorship of H.R. 1110 (T. Davis, R-Va.). Guard/Reserve Retirement legislation would reduce the Reserve retirement age. A “+” indicates Senate cosponsorship of S. 648 (Chambliss, R-Ga.) or S. 1243 (Kerry, D-Mass.); a SASC vote for S. 1547; or cosponsorship of H.R. 690 (Saxton, R-N.J.) or H.R. 1428 (Latham, R-Iowa). DoD/VA Transition legislation would improve treatment and benefits for severely injured servicemembers and veterans and ease transition for wounded warriors. A “+” indicates Senate cosponsorship of S. 713 (Obama, D-Ill.); S. 1065 or S. 1363 (Clinton, D-N.Y.); S. 1349 (Durbin, D-Ill.); or S. 1606 (Levin, D-Mich.). TRICARE Fee legislation would bar most or all fee increases for TRICARE beneficiaries during FY 2008. A “+” indicates Senate cosponsorship of S. 604 (Lautenberg, D-N.J.); a SASC vote for S. 1547; House cosponsorship of H.R. 579 (Edwards, D-Texas); or a House vote for H.R. 1585. Military Pay Raise legislation would increase the troops’ pay raise above the budget plan. A “+” indicates House cosponsorship of H.R. 2027 (Bilirakis, R-Fla.) or a vote for H.R. 1585.
