Military Officer - October 2006 - (Page 16) “There’s no time like the present to think about my future.” No one knows the value of reconnaissance like you do. After all, you spent your entire military career forming a plan to accomplish your mission. So why should your retirement decisions be any different? Even if you’re still working and not ready to retire, there's no better time to “do a recon” for the lifestyle you’ll want when that day comes. At San Antonio’s own Army Residence Community, you’ll enjoy a carefree life in one of our spacious cottages or lovely apartments. You’ll savor delicious meals and appreciate the freedom our maintenance and housekeeping services offer. You’ll take plenty of comfort in knowing our on-site Health Care Center can provide for all of your future health care needs. Best of all, you’ll find an active social life with other retired career military officers— from all branches of service—along with their spouses, widows and widowers. Let the Army Residence Community be a part of your future by calling us today! yourviews has gone on for years,” and I would like to add it is not restricted to one party but all three are very active in it. Until we voters get busy and look at the individual and not his party, and vote according to [a candidate’s intent] to benefit the country and not himself, his contributors, or his party, we will have pork-barrel politics, and it will only increase. In the same [issue], “Election Facts” [“Chapter Activities”] states that MOAA is for its members, not a [political] party. I think that article should be pointed out to each chapter and maybe made mandatory reading at a couple of the meetings. That is the reason I am not a member of a chapter. I stand behind our military 100 percent; they do not make policy, they enforce it and are doing a very good job of it, even though they are overburdened, undermanned, and not supported too well by our lawmakers. The “Bridge to Nowhere” espoused by Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) is symbolic of the wanton disregard that our electorate has for the real taxpayers. [Since 1991] $241 billion has been spent on pork, … and [such spending] is increasing at a rate of 29 percent since 2003. … Is this really a nation “of the people, for the people, and by the people”?
