It’s about involving employees, making them feel empowered and in creative ways. This issue features a glimpse into the future—what you can expect from MPI in the coming year (see Chairman Eric Rozenberg’s story on Page 90), but also what you can expect in just a few weeks at WEC 2010 in Vancouver. This year’s slogan is again “When We Meet, We Change The World,” and as you’ll see, massive change can happen when each of us is empowered to make a difference, and it can begin with something as small as a bar of soap. Since April 2009, almost 4 million children have died from diseases that could have been prevented by proper hygiene, and MPI has orchestrated a partnership with Clean the World to help fight it. The plan? The soap we all will use in Vancouver will be collected by participating hotels, sanitized and re-wrapped by Clean the World and sent to Vancouver-area shelters. It’s an easy way for hotels to “donate” and for attendees to make a difference. Another story of inspir inspiration is our featured profile this month, Mari Kuraishi. In 2003, Kuraishi left a high-paying job in banking and starte GlobalGiving.org, a grass-roots started organization that to da has raised more than US$29 date million for charity proje in more than 100 countries. projects Her big idea started with a gift card. Companies and individuals can purchas gift cards as gifts or rewards purchase for employees or clients but it’s “a gift card that doesn’t work at any stor in town.” Instead, the recipient store chooses a cha charity to receive the money. Both ar creative ways that companies are can empower employees, and individuemp als can empower clients, to change the world. wor See you in Vancouver! MPI EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT Bruce M.
