YOUR COMMUNITY Content on the Go If you don’t have time to read the latest industry news or check in with your chapter during your busy work hours, don’t fret. MPI is now available on the go with its new mobile website (m.mpiweb.org) and iPhone app. MPI developed the new content vehicles after seeing increased demand for mobile solutions following the successful development and launch of apps for its events in 2010. FutureWatch 2011 results validated the move, reporting that the use of mobile content delivery is on the rise. BlackBerry and Android platforms are on the way. Meanwhile, MPI has agreed to develop mobile apps for the IMEX America and Frankfurt trade shows through its role as the former’s strategic partner and premier education provider. The apps will expand content and marketplace access for attendees before, during and after the events. CHAPTER SPOTLIGHT Get the Job Done Two heads are better than one— why not four? That’s how many industry associations plan to collaborate this fall to help those members seeking a change in their employment status. Less than $40 will provide delegates at the event with motivation, inspiration and a chance at lunch with a “master” (mentors). The MPI Orange County and Southern California chapters will partner with the local Business Travel Association and Society of Incentive & Travel Executives orgs to host CareerCon11, a oneday career development seminar and networking event. The event will include motivational and instructional speakers, workshops and seasoned professionals who served as the masters. The event will aim to positively touch the community by providing those affected by the economic downturn with a resource to get back into the workforce. Employed delegates will find opportunity and guidance in new or different employment avenues. People comfortable in their current roles will learn how to map out steps for advancement. 112 one+ 03/04.11 > Welcome, South Africa The Rainbow Nation welcomes its first CMM this spring. Pieter Swart, CMP, is now one of 700 meeting professionals who have earned the honor. Swart is the founder of Conference Consultancy South Africa, an event management firm. The CMM program (offered exclusively by MPI) teaches the business of meetings as well as business management modules related to meetings. This program selects, educates and certifies meeting and event professionals at the management level and develops their strategic decision-making abilities to manage and deliver exceptional meetings and events. MPI hosts the program twice annually, and each class accommodates 56 select candidates. Content is updated continuously to match today’s evolving international business requirements. Online applications to serve on an MPI committee, advisory council or task force open April 4 for the 2011-2012 fiscal year. Applications for international service are due by 9 p.m. CDT April 22. Members currently serving on MPI committees, advisory councils and task forces do not need to complete new applications. Volunteer evaluation and interest forms for current volunteers will be distributed in early April, and all member appointments will be finalized by late May.
