BUSINESS BAROMETER
The Price of Travel
For the first time this month, North American event professionals cite concern for add-on hotel costs—such as Internet access and service charges and parking and vendor fees. Meanwhile, rising fuel and travel costs aren’t just disturbing the NA meeting marketplace. A small percentage of European professionals are also expressing concern. In the Business Barometer, Your Peers Said:
“
Groups are still being reactive, hence lead time issues. Hotels see their business coming back and are trying to squeeze out every bit of revenue they can, but often without offering any more value to the client.
Business is getting stronger, slowly, probably due to companies realizing that they cannot keep postponing events indefinitely, despite an economy and trading environment that are still quite depressed.

”
Clients are keen to return to the same hotels and cities to avoid spending the additional time and money necessary for venue research and site inspections.
