Grace Design (gracedesign.com) premiered the newest evolution of its reference headphone amplifiers, the m903 ($1895). The new amplifier offers balanced and unbalanced analog inputs plus a variety of digital input formats (AES3, coaxial S/PDIF, Toslink, and USB) at up to 24/192 quality, and offers dual headphone outs, balanced and unbalanced line-level outputs with individual level controls, a crossfeed circuit to offset the perceived loss of low-frequency content, improved D/A conversion and audio performance, and more. Great River Electronics (greatriverelectronics.com) debuted the MixMaster 20 ($6500), a rackmount analog signal processor/mixer that provides a high-quality analog front end for DAW users. It features four input channels with transformer-coupled mic preamps and line/instrument bridging amplifiers, each with a balanced insert and four aux sends. There are also 16 transformerless line inputs, for a 20-channel level/pan mix to a passively summed stereo mix bus. There’s also a full control-room monitor select system with mix replay monitoring and talkback. Mix settings are storable and a GUI for DAW automation is in development. iZotope (izotope.com) released Nectar ($299), a new plug-in for vocal processing. Nectar includes eleven processing modules: pitch correction, breath control, compressors, de-esser, doubler, saturation, eq, gate, limiter, delay, and reverb. Users can quickly set up sounds by choosing from a menu of style presets with easy-to-use simplified controls, or enter Advanced View for direct access to all parameters in all modules. A review is on the way. JBL Professional (jblpro.com) is now shipping a Mac version of the Control Center software for the MSC1 monitor controller ($375), which includes a calibration microphone for user correction of room modes and other acoustic problems. Look for a review soon. Josephson Engineering (josephson.com) is now shipping the C715 ($3800), a single-diaphragm mic that uses a mechanical shutter to change its polar patter from omni to cardioid. The mic features a patented foamed-aluminum windscreen that prevents resonances found in traditional grilles. Korg (www.korg.com) created quite a buzz with an item that was not shown on the floor but in a hotel suite nearby—a fullyfunctional prototype of a multi-track DSD DAW—see our editors’ blog at www.recordingmag.com/blogs/post/118.html. On the floor, Korg showed the microKEY USB powered keyboard and MIDI controller ($129.99). Lexicon (lexiconpro.com) debuted the PCM Native Effects Bundle ($1199.95), which complements the PCM Native Reverb Bundle by offering six non-reverb effects algorithms first heard in the company’s hardware PCM96 processor, including delay, chorus/flange, tuned resonating delays, pitch shift, and a pianosoundboard resonator algorithm called Stringbox.

Little Labs (littlelabs.com) showed the new Redeye 3D phantom ($289), an improved version of the Redeye DI/reamplification box. The new model operates as a simultaneous direct box and reamplification box, so the player can listen to his amplified tone while sending a DI signal to his DAW for later reamplification and amp miking, with a separate custom transformer for each of the two functions. It adds a high-quality phantom-powered Hi-Z instrument buffer for the best possible tone when tracking passive or piezo pickups, with passive DI mode still an option if desired. Lynx Studio Technology (lynxstudio.com) continues to expand the flexibility of its Aurora converters with new interfacing options. New at AES 2010: the LT-USB ($395), which allows the Aurora to connect directly to any USB 2.0-capable computer as an audio interface, with 16 channels of 24/96 audio or 8 channels of 24/192. Lynx also announced a new WaveRT driver for Windows Vista/7 and an autodetect feature that chooses the appropriate driver for the Windows OS version on the host PC. Millennia Media (mil-media.com) featured two new 500 Series modules: the AD-596 ($1500), an 8channel A/D converter with TASCAM-format analog input and AES3 output on DB25 connectors and word clock I/O on BNC, supporting up to 24/96 quality, and the HV-35 ($TBA, projected under $800), a forthcoming 500 Series version of Millennia’s successful HV-3 mic preamp. Features include pad, polarity flip, a ribbon switch that bypasses the phantom power circuit and boosts the gain, a lowcut filter, and a DI input. MixSensei (www.mixsensei.com) launched a series of downloadable online video tutorials, Master Audio Concepts by Dave Isaac (initial cost $39.95—see website for details). Mojave Audio (mojaveaudio.com) gave a sneak peek at the new MA-300 ($1295), a tube condenser mic similar to the company’s MA-200 mic but with a continuously variable polar pattern. The new mic also adds a bass cut switch and a 15 dB pad. Neumann (neumannusa.com) showed the KH 120 Studio Monitor ($TBA), Neumann’s first foray into loudspeakers following the acquisition of Klein + Hummel. It’s a dual-ported active speaker with analog and digital inputs, biamplified with 50W per driver, with a 1" titanium fabric dome tweeter and 5.25" long-throw woofer. The new speaker is to be released early in 2011, and we’ll review it soon after that.
