brainworx (brainworx-music.de): bx_XL ($419) is a low-latency M/S mastering limiter plug-in that allows mixes to reach higher levels of overall loudness without many of the distortion and compression artifacts heard in common mastering limiters. CAD Audio (cadmics.com): The company’s first headphone offerings are the MH310 ($69), a circumaural studio headphone with 10 Hz–30 kHz frequency response, and the DH100 ($49), isolation headphones for drummers with 19 dB sound reduction and extended bass response. Also new: the U9 USB MiniMic ($39), with a swiveling capsule and headphone out. Cakewalk (cakewalk.com): SONAR X1 ($99 Essential, $199 Studio, $399 Producer) is now shipping. This extensive update to the popular DAW includes a completely reworked user interface experience called Skylight, revamped Smart Tools, workflow enhancements, new content and plug-ins, and much more. Look for a review soon. Dave Smith Instruments (davesmithinstruments .com): The Tempest ($1999) is a new drum machine designed by Dave Smith with Roger Linn, inventor of the famed LinnDrum. It uses analog and digital synthesis/sampling to create its six voices, played with 16 velocity- and pressure- sensitive pads and two ribbon controllers. DigiTech (digitech.com): The company’s new line of guitar amps ranges from three small practice models and three digital-modeling amps to a 150W tube half-stack. Also new: the limited-edition Lyra distortion/overdrive modeling pedal ($249.95), with sounds created in cooperation with Llexi Leon of Eternal Descent. DPA Microphones (dpamicrophones.com): The Reference Standard Series is now shipping, with four capsules (cardioid, wide cardioid, omni, and shotgun) and three preamp bodies, allowing the user to mix and match components to build compact or full-sized mics according to application needs and budget. Dramastic Audio Corp. (www.dramasticaudio.com): The Obsidian 500 stereo bus compressor, a dual-space 500 Series module, now has a Dual Mono Expansion unit (price TBA). This unit allows the Obsidian 500 to function as separate mono compressors by providing a complete second set of front panel controls and meters. Earthworks (earthworksaudio.com): The SR40V (price TBA) was being shown in preliminary form at the show. It’s a handheld vocal condenser mic with a 9 mm diaphragm and a frequency response of 80 Hz–40 kHz with self-noise of 22 dBA and max SPL of 145 dB, in a casing designed to resist handling noise. Behringer (behringer.com): The X32 digital mixing console (available Fall 2011, price TBA), will have 40 processing channels and 25 mix buses, each with (dynamics, EQ and inserts), and a USB port for unprocessed board mix recording to USB drives. Also new: the PowerPlay P16 Ethernetbased personal monitoring system, and the tiny XENYX 302USB 3-input USB interface/mixer, prices also TBA. beyerdynamic (beyerdynamic.com): The DT 1350 ($299) is a new monitoring headphone that offers a new driver design called Tesla, with a ring-shaped magnet, multilayer membrane, and all-metal design for improved sound. BIAS (bias-inc.com): Peak Studio and Peak Studio XT, first announced at AES, are now shipping, and Peak Studio LE ($129) has just been announced, featuring Peak LE 7 with a variety of included plug-ins. Big Fish Audio (bigfishaudio.com): New releases include Q ($299.95), a 16 GB collection of cinematic effects, atmospheres, and landscapes, in 23 categories and powered by the Native Instruments Kontakt engine; RiG ($199.95, available spring), a complete urban production sound toolkit; and Studio Kit Builder ($199.95, available summer), featuring dozens of multiple-miked multitracked drum kits in a virtual instrument. Blue Microphones (bluemic.com): The Reactor ($499) is a large-diaphragm solid-state condenser mic with a swiveling capsule head for fine position adjustment and three polar patterns. The Yeti Pro ($249) was sneak-previewed at AES; like the Yeti it offers USB connectivity, a headphone output, and cardioid, omni, figure-8, and stereo patterns, but adds 24/192 conversion and XLR outputs for mono or stereo wired operation without USB. Bock Audio (bockaudio.com): The BOCK 241 ($3650) is a new tube condenser mic with a cardioid polar pattern and high-frequency flat/minus switch. It replaces the famous BOCK 151 mic and brings the design closer to the top-end BOCK 251’s performance.
