is where plug-in presets are stored. By default (in Pro Tools), they go into the plugins settings folder on the main hard drive. I like to save the settings in their own folder inside each song’s session folder. That way they’re always there no matter what system I’m using. Conclusion Drums weren’t the only consideration on Pieces. I imported a lot of the same processing on the vocals and two-mix bus compression from song to song, so they too would have some consistency to them. While I created the track mixes in Pro Tools, I finally mixed the whole project down to 1 /2" tape; that’s an approach worth considering if you’re set up for it, as it certainly adds a sonic “glue” that brings all the songs together. Since the process of making music has changed so dramatically in the past couple of years, we have to be careful and pay attention to detail. By no means should what I have suggested in this article be taken to mean that I think everything should sound exactly the same, because I don’t. But at the appropriate times it’s nice when a collection of songs have elements to them that maintain an underlying sonic flow. I know, I know... these days we’re back in 1955 where it’s all about the single in mainstream music. I get that. But I still like to make records, and I know a lot of artists that do too.
