New Virtual Instruments From Best Service
The newest virtual instruments from Best Service are the Desert Winds woodwind instrument from Eduardo Tarilonte and the Galaxy X convolution synthesizer from Galaxy Instruments. Both are based on the ENGINE 2 sample playback platform created by Yellow Tools, and require no additional software for use in standalone or plug-in mode. Desert Winds is a 2.5 GB sound library featuring over 2000 samples from four solo wind instruments: the Armenian Duduk, Persian and Turkish Ney, and Zourna. The library features up to six different legato types per instrument, 16 microtuning tables for Arabic and Turkish scales, 21 “soundscape” ambiences, and more. Galaxy X features a combination of hundreds of tonally playable instruments, sound effects, and audio loops, which can be combined in the instrument’s X-Engine to create endlessly morphing sounds. The source material covers traditional instruments, prepared instruments, electronics, bent circuits, found objects, ethnic instruments, and much more. JHAudio Ships High-End Amplifier For In-Ear Monitors
The JH-3A DSP Amp is an amplifier designed to work with JHAudio’s JH16 Pro in-ear monitors, which are intended to provide accurate sound for musicians, audio engineers, and audiophiles alike. The amplifier uses 32-bit DSP to replace traditional passive crossovers and independently drive the monitor’s dual treble, dual mid and quad bass transducers, providing flat frequency response from 10 Hz–23 kHz. The amp offers analog or 24-bit/96 kHz S/PDIF digital inputs plus USB, digitally controlled volume and bass boost (up to 12 dB), and can handle audio at up to 192 kHz sampling rates. The in-ear monitors themselves come with an adapter cable for use without the amp. ISBN-13: 978-0-8256-7369-6. $29.95 The brothers Brabec have walked the walk in the real world and they talk the talk in academia: Jeffrey Brabec was a label executive with Chrysalis/BMG, Todd Brabec was an executive with ASCAP, and they both teach music business classes at the renowned USC Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles. This book is the product of their combined wealth of experiences in the field. Now in its 7th edition, it is structured as follows: The first section, “Music, Money, Songwriting, and Music Publishing”, starts out defining Music Publishers and what they do, including a run-down of the roles of the various departments of a Music Publisher company, and it goes on to the songwriter/publisher relationship, contracts and sources of income. The second section deals with co-publishing, the third with co-ventures and joint ventures, then come sections on copyright, on concerns of the recording artist, on questions of money and music and rights in regards to sampling, television, motion pictures, commercials, performances, Broadway, video games, internet and new media, and a chapter about rights in foreign countries. The language is clear and concise, and many examples are detailed in statistics and dollar amounts. A wealth of information, delivered with a refreshing lack of legalese. For a songwriter who plans to see an entertainment lawyer to take their affairs to the next level, we recommend this book, in conjunction with the 19-part legal series that Recording brought you from April 2010 to October 2011.
