Great River Electronics (greatriverelectronics.com) showed early preproduction units of a new 500 Series compressor, the PWM 501 (price TBA). The PWM does stand for Pulse Width Modulation, usually seen in synthesizers but used here as an entirely new gain control method (vs. the usual FET, optical element, or VCA). The new design allows for blending of feedback and feed-forward compression. inMusic (inmusicbrands.com) was a powerful new presence on the show floor. This new company owns nine different music technology firms ranging from consumer audio to DJ gear and professional production toools, including AIR Music Technology, Akai, Alesis, Alto, M-Audio, and SONiVOX. The company showcased products from all its firms previously seen at NAMM and hinted at some very cool new technology to come. Brandnew at AES: M-Audio (m-audio.com) showcased the Axiom AIR Mini 32 (price TBA), a portable keyboard/control surface, and gave a first glimpse of Ignite, a composercentric music creation platform. Lavry Engineering (lavryengineering.com) was displaying the LK-1 Latency Killer Real Time Headphone Cue Mixer ($2840), a 2U integrated unit for latency-free overdubbing with DAW output monitoring. It includes two send/return effects loops and high-quality A/D and D/A conversion without alteration of signal quality. Lewitt Audio (lewitt-audio.com) is now distributed in North America through TruNorth Music & Sound (trunorthmusicandsound.com). The Austrian mic maker’s newest design is the DTP 640 REX ($299), a mic for bass and kick drum that features time-aligned dynamic and condenser elements in one chassis, with user-selectable frequency enhancement for one or both capsules. IsoAcoustics (isoacoustics.com) rolled out the new ISO•L8R 200 isolating speaker stands ($179.99/pair), which are reviewed in this issue. iZ Technology (izcorp.com) released the newest version of its RADAR disk-based high-resolution audio multitrack recorder. RADAR 6 ($8600 and up, depending on configuration) offers world-class converters, can record to solid-state SATA or removable flash drives, has a built-in multipage touchscreen for user control, and much more. Also shown: the new ADA II modular converter systems ($6700 and up). iZotope (izotope.com) introduced Insight ($499), a suite of metering plug-ins for audio post-production, tracking, mastering, and broadcast. The suite includes true peak meters, loudness meters, a spectrum analyzer, 2D/3D spectrogram, surround scope, stereo vectorscope, and more. Also new: Trash 2 (price TBA), a massive update to iZotope’s popular audio distortion/enhancement plug-in with convolution, new filters, and more. JDK Audio (jdkaudio.com) at the API booth (apiaudio .com) premiered two new 500 Series versions of classic rack signal processors, the V10 mic preamp and the V12 compressor ($695 each). Kush Audio (kushaudio.com) showed the Electra ($599), a 4-band 500 Series “Electrified Transient Equalizer”. It’s a multi-topology eq with two sweepable bands whose Q changes proportionally to gain; a rack version will be coming soon. Also new: the Clariphonic DSP ($149) plug-in version of the Clariphonic rackmount dual-channel parallel equalizer.

Merging Technologies (merging.com, dist. in USA by Independent Audio, independentaudio.com) debuted the Horus ($6500 plus I/O cards), a networked A/D and D/A conversion unit for up to 176in/178-out operation at 192 kHz sample rate. It can communicate with other devices using the Ravenna IP-networked audio standard. Miktek Audio (miktekaudio.com) was on hand with a new prototype ribbon mic (price and availability TBA), in addition to its full line of condenser and dynamic designs and the MPA-201 dualchannel Class A mic preamplifier ($1499). Millennia Media (mil-media.com) showed the new HV37 ($1600), a rackmount 2-channel mic preamp and HiZ instrument DI providing the features and sound quality of the HV-35 in a rack format for non-500-Series users, including the DC coupled Ribbon mode. Moog Music (moogmusic.com) has added to its 500 Series module lineup with the new 500 Series Analog Delay ($999), which includes 800 ms of delay, a built-in LFO for delay modulation, stereo linking, and front-panel MIDI sync and tap tempo or CV inputs. A free patch editor is available as a VST/AU/RTAS/AAX plug-in; it offers access to many features not available on the front panel. Moon (moon-professional.com) is the new pro audio division of Simaudio, an established designer of audiophile gear in Montreal, now distributed by Audio Plus Services (audioplusservices.com).
