HEDD (hedd.audio, dist. by RAD Distribution, raddist.com),
the new speaker company created by ADAM Audio founder
Klaus Heinz, brought its first three models to market: the Type
05 (6" woofer, $599 each), Type 07 (7" woofer, $849 each),
and Type 30 (3-way with dual 7" woofers and 4" midrange,
$3999 each) monitors. All three feature an Air Motion Transformer (folded ribbon) tweeter, a highly rigid cabinet for greatly
extended lows, and an option card slot for digital connections
and networking. The Type 05 arrived at our offices right after
NAMM, and a review is forthcoming.
Hotone Audio (hotoneaudio.com, on display at its own booth
and at Samson, samsontech.com) was showing the newest
models for the XTOMP ($249.99), a powerful digital effects
pedal that can be instantly reprogrammed with one of dozens
of different effects models via Bluetooth. Look for a review soon.
iConnectivity (iconnectivity.com) introduced two new interfaces: the ConnectAUDIO2/4 ($149.99), a 2-in/4-out USB audio/MIDI interface, and the spinXLR ($59.99), a compact
RIAA phono preamp-to-XLR converter for users who wish to
record from vinyl with their DAWs' high-quality interfaces.
IK Multimedia (ikmultimedia.com) demonstrated the iRig
Acoustic Stage ($99.99), a new digital mic system for acoustic
guitar. It combines the iRig Acoustic soundhole pickup with a
portable preamp/processor with tone presets, feedback
cancellation, built-in aux input, and USB output for recording.
IsoAcoustics (isoacoustics.com, dist. by Audio Plus Services,
audioplusservices.com) introduced the ISO-PUCK ($29.99), the
ultimate do-it-yourself speaker isolation system. The ISO-PUCK
is a flexible articulated isolator in a simple disc shape; the user
places as many units as needed under each speaker to provide
isolation based on weight (20 lbs./puck), from a single unit under a small check monitor to four or more under larger speakers.
JBL (jblpro.com) introduced powered versions of the 7 Series Master
Reference Monitors, highly compact monitors that provide much
of the technology developed for the massive M2 mastering speakers. Two models will be available: the 705P with 5" woofer and
the 708P with 8" woofer ($999 and $1999 each). Both models
feature Image Control Waveguides, AES digital inputs, and more.

JHS Pedals (jhspedals.com) showed a variety of new effects,
including the VCR volume/chorus/boost pedal designed with
PaxAM for Ryan Adams ($269), the Milkman combination slap
delay and boost/enhancer designed in collaboration with Milkman Sound ($179), and the reissued Calhoun V2 overdrive/
fuzz built for famed guitarist Mike Campbell ($315). All three
pedals are scheduled to ship in the Spring. JHS also showed
500 Series versions of the Colour Box preamp/EQ, Emperor
chorus/vibrato, and SuperBolt overdrive.
Josephson Engineering (josephson.com) is now shipping the
C725 ($8800), a new multipattern mic that combines tube and
solid-state electronics referenced from other Josephson designs
with the company's aluminum foam windscreen and internal
shockmounting. A unique Sun/Moon switch on the power supply
selects between full-gain warmth and a negative-feedback loop
for a clearer, lower-output tone.
Korg (korg.com) announced that it would be porting its very
successful Gadget iOS composition software to the Mac (price
and availability TBA), where the various "Gadget" virtual instruments would become available as plug-ins for use in other DAWs.
KRK Systems (krksys.com) was showing the fourth generation
of its V Series active monitors, available in sizes from 4" to 8"
as well as two new powered subwoofers. Look for reviews in a
forthcoming issue.
Lauten Audio (lautenaudio.com, dist. by Audio Plus Services,
audioplussservices.com) has added a 10 dB inline pad ($59/
pair) to its Series Black LA-120 small-diaphragm condenser
instrument mics. The company also announced premium
quality replacement suspension mount bands ($19.99/set) for
its large-diaphragm condenser mic lineup.
LEWITT (lewitt-audio.com, dist. by American Music & Sound,
americanmusicandsound.com) brought three new mics to
NAMM. The Interviewer ($199) is a handheld interview mic
sporting reduced handling noise and rugged reliability. The LCT
440 PURE ($269) is a complete high-quality recording mic for
the smaller studio, complete with windscreen, pop filter, and
shockmount, and the LCT 240 PRO ($149) brings LEWITT quality
to the lowest price point yet for recording beginners.
