Line 6 (line6.com) announced Helix Native ($399), a powerful
guitar effects and amp modeling plug-in that emulates the capabilities of the high-end Helix guitar effects modeling pedalboard.
Patches are swappable between the hardware and software for
easy movement from studio to stage, and will support third party
Impulse Response (IR) files. Also new: Echo Farm 3.0 ($199), a
64-bit AAX delay/echo plug-in for Pro Tools.
Luke Audio (lukeaudiollc.com, dist. by Wave Distribution,
wavedistro.com) displayed the new Y56 ($999), a tube
condenser mic in a "lollipop" style which comes complete with
three different capsules for different tonal articulations.
Lynx Studio Technology (lynxstudio.com) introduced the
Aurora(n) line of A/D and D/A converters ($2799-$6599),
a line of fourteen rackmount conversion systems with interchangeable option modules. Compatible with Thunderbolt,
USB, Dante, and Pro Tools | HD, the interfaces will be available
with 8 to 32 channels of I/O.

Mäag Audio (maagaudio.com) was demonstrating the new
Magnum-K compressor ($2395), a rack unit that contains two
separate compressors, a parallel EQ with Mäag's well-known
Air Band, and soft limiting, for very musical dynamics control.
Look for a review soon.
Mackie (mackie.com) was showing the XR Series monitors
(reviewed in this issue) and also announced a new line of Big
Knob monitor controllers. The new lineup has three models:
the 2 source x 2 monitor-pair Big Knob Passive ($69.99), the
3 x 2 Big Knob Studio with 24/96 USB interface and talkback
($199.99), and the 4 x 3 Big Knob Studio+ ($299.99) with
2-in/4-out 24/192 USB interface and more.
Manley Labs (manleylabs.com) showed a prototype of the
new Reference Silver microphone (price and availability TBA),
a tube mic based on the famous Sony C37A capsule, with a
warm tone to complement Manley's other Reference mics.
McDSP (mcdsp.com) announced the EC-300 Echo Collection
(price TBA), a delay plug-in with Magnetic, Digital, and Analog
modes, a variety of extra modeling features like Wow, Flutter,
Saturation, and Ducking, and over 75 included impulse models.
Mesanovic Microphones (mesanovicmicrophones.com) was
at the Vintage King booth (vintageking.com), showing the new
Model 2AS ($2499), an active version of the Model 2S stereo
ribbon mic. The new microphone has custom-wound house-made
toroidal transformers, and offers phase-coherent stereo recording
with very low self-noise.
Mix With The Masters (mixwiththemasters.com) had a strong
presence at the Vintage King booth (vintageking.com), where
famed engineers like Joe Chiccarelli, Chris and Tom Lord-Alge,
Eddie Kramer, and Sylvia Massy gave regular seminars on their
working techniques to fascinated crowds.
Moog (moogmusic.com) didn't show any gear this year.
Instead, its booth was an interactive memorial honoring a number
of music pioneers who left us in 2016, including Don Buchla,
Keith Emerson, Pauline Olivieros, and Jean-Jacques Perrey.
MOTU (motu.com) had three new interfaces on display for
specialty users. Priced at $595 each, these three half-rack
interfaces offer AVB Ethernet networking, standalone operation,
and onboard DSP mixing and effects. The M64 offers up to 256
MADI I/O channels on optical and coaxial connectors; the 8D
offers four channels each of AES3 and S/PDIF digital I/O with
sample rate conversion; and the LP32 offers up to 32 channels
of optical digital I/O (16 channels at 88.2 or 96 kHz).
