Neumann (neumannusa.com) showed the KH 80 DSP
($499.95 each), a compact monitor for high-quality monitoring
in small rooms. Forthcoming Neumann.Control software
will allow the monitor to calibrate its response to the listening
environment for more accuracy and translatability. Look for a
review soon; the speakers are available as of February 2017
and the software will follow in Spring.
Overloud (overloud.com, dist. by ILIO, ilio.com) showed the first
in its new line of Gems mixing/mastering plug-ins, a faithful
emulation of the 1176 compressor called Comp76 ($139). The new
plug-in offers built-in parallel and Mid/Side compression as well as
sidechaining, All Buttons In mode, and transformer modeling.
Placid Audio (placidaudio.com) came to its first NAMM with a
cool new limited-edition mic: the Carbonphone RU-80 (price TBA),
a new version of the Carbonphone carbon-element mic with a
Russian mic element that offers a gritty, immediate sonic character.
PreSonus (presonus.com) was showing its third-generation
StudioLive digital mixers ($1999.95 and $2999.95). Featuring
16 and 32 input channels with motorized faders and full recall,
the new mixers boast improved DSP effects, AVB Ethernet networking and control, rapid reconfiguration and customization
including 16 assignable buses, and more. Also new: the Studio
2|6 and Studio 6|8 bus-powered USB audio interfaces with
built-in A/B Cue mix auditioning ($199.95 and $299.95).
Primacoustic (primacoustic.com) has premiered a new
shape for its wall-mounted absorption panels. The Honeycomb
($279.99/12-pack) is a 16" hexagonal absorber with beveled
edges that can be hung in aesthetically pleasing patterns while
providing flutter echo and reflection control.
PSP Audioware (pspaudioware.com) premiered the PSP
FETpressor ($99), a FET compressor plug-in with highpass filter,
parallel compression, and a makeup gain and output transformer
emulation to add subtle character even when not compressing.
Pulse Techniques (pultec.com) was showing the new Jack Douglas
Edition of its MEQ-500 3-band midrange EQ module ($1295,
available later this year).
Radial Engineering (radialeng.com) was demonstrating the Key-Largo ($379.99), an innovative
new keyboard mixer and USB interface for performing artists. Designed as a rugged floor pedal,
it combines three stereo keyboards and USB virtual instruments with a switchable stereo effects loop
and even includes a sustain pedal button. Also

new: the LX-2 and LX-3 line splitters ($219.99 and $259.99),
and several new Tonebone effects.
RME (rme-audio.com) announced several new interfaces,
including the 30-in/30-out Fireface UFX II (available this Spring,
$2499) that includes 12 analog, 16 ADAT, and stereo AES
digital channels; the bus-powered Digiface USB for 32-channel
optical digital audio I/O plus an analog headphone mix; and
the ARC USB remote control.

Radial Key-Largo
Roland (roland.com/us) released its first new recording products
in some time: the GO:MIXER ($99) portable mixer/interface for
audio recording into smartphones and tablets, and the Rubix
line of audio interfaces for Mac and PC, with 24/192 audio
support, unique top-visible indicator LEDs, and 2x2, 2x4, and
4x4 I/O formats ($149/$199/$299). The Rubix24 and
Rubix44 include a built-in compressor.
ROLI (roli.com) announced the forthcoming BLOCKS Dashboard software (free), a hackable open-source program for Mac
and Windows that allows the new BLOCKS series of touch controllers to be integrated with a wide variety of DAWs and other
music software. The beta was being demonstrated at the show,
and the shipping version will be out by the time you read this.
Samson (samsontech.com) premiered the Go Mic Mobile (available May, price TBA), a digital wireless mic receiver pack that
clips to a smartphone or DSLR camera hot shoe, allowing for
easy recording of high-quality audio while recording video in the
field. It is available paired with a lavalier, handheld, or shotgun
mic, and supports recording from two mics at once. Also new: the
QH4 portable 4-way headphone amplifier, reviewed in this issue.
