The course lets you choose from up to six tee boxes on every hole. There are few forced carries. Landing areas are relatively genial. And an occasional whiff of some exotic blossom, not to mention an abundance of gorgeous ocean vistas, does wonders for your sense of well-being. But the challenges are still there, disguised as they may be. Emerald #6 measures some 415 yards from the white tees, a downhill par 4 with plenty of landing area and only two bunkers, both in the fairway. The green looks like Fort Knox without a lick of security. But before you charge in, be sure you’re armed with a good approach shot. The green falls off in all directions into grass bunkers, and you’ll have to contend with a tricky pitch shot if your aim is weak. Hole #11 is fairly straightforward but the farthest stretch on the course, 535 yards from the white tee – longer if the wind is blowing its usual course, which is directly into you. Water’s not much of a hazard here (excepting the visual distractions of the ocean).
