Maui's Golf Coast 2007 - (Page 7) On rolling volcanic foothills: the 10th green of Ka‘anapali Kai have to ignore the gorgeous view of Lana‘i. The 14th is also a par 3, measuring 194 yards from the regular tee, with an elevated tee box that drops 60 feet from start to finish. The fairway cascades downhill in a series of undulations to a green flanked left and right by bunkers. The par 4 16th hole is relatively straightforward except for the canal that divides the fairway from the green. It’s important here to gauge the wind and aim your approach shot to avoid not only the water hazard, but the denizens of wildlife that congregate there: blue heron, ducks, plovers, cattle egret and more. In all, you’ll find water and wildlife on three of the K a‘anapali Kai holes. One of the nicest things about the K a‘anapali courses is the abundance of coconut trees. More than a thousand of these graceful palms dot the fairways, approximately 300 of them at the K a‘anapali Kai second and third holes alone. Many of them reach more than 150' in height. They’re a constant reminder that you’re not just playing golf; you’re playing golf on Maui. K a‘anapali Kai has been rated 3.5 stars by Golf Digest. The golf clubhouse offers a pro shop with a wide array of logo merchandise, and the K a‘anapali Bar and Grill, serving island-style fare. The course’s proximity to K a‘anapali’s hotels and condominiums, and its accessibility via foot or the complimentary resort trolley, mean exceptional convenience.
