Job Choices - February 2013 - Diversity Edition - (Page 49) Acing the BehaviorBased Interview Many organizations favor an interview style referred to as “behavior-based interviewing,” which is based on the idea that your past behavior may indicate how you might handle a similar situation in the future. In the behavior-based interview, you’ll be asked questions about your experiences, so the interviewer can assess how you handle tasks, situations, and problems. (See page 50 for examples.) The interviewer will be paying careful attention to your thought processes, decision-making abilities, and emotional state, plus the results of your actions. You will be expected to give detailed responses based on actual experiences. Frame your responses in three parts: 1) provide an overview of the situation; 2) describe the actions you took; 3) explain the results. Diversity. Opportunity. Community.
