Educational Procurement Journal - December 2007 - (Page 15) Reduced Environmental Impact of Green Buildings: Energy Savings 30% Carbon Savings 35% Water Use Savings 30-50% Waste Cost Savings 50-90% 2006 Statistics doesn’t have to. If contractors and architects are turned loose with money, they will spend it and ask for more. We as Purchasing and facility professionals have a responsibility to control and manage resources, not only on LEED projects, but on all projects. It became clear that organizations that have decided to go LEED are committed to improving the health and well-being of both the on- and off-campus communities. They want to maintain and increase resources that are otherwise being destroyed daily. True leadership and management use and preserve natural resources. I concluded that, as Purchasing professionals, we can assist LEED projects in a variety of ways, both during the construction phase and after the building has been commissioned. For example, we can influence the choice of products used in the daily custodial and maintenance actions. It takes many people for a project to be successful. But remember, we all can be leaders by being followers of LEED.
