Educational Procurement Journal - December 2007 - (Page 17) do this, that nothing would deter us, and that we might be blazing a trail to inspire others. Most importantly, we agreed that it would only work if our “all for one and one for all” goal resulted in recognitions as a group at the 2008 National Conference. We also agreed that even if one finished her testing, she would remain in the group to help the others. And thus was formed our “Musketeers,” dedicated to insuring that the participants will be celebrated – together – in Austin at the 2008 National Conference. We started the group on Module III. Paula elected to join even though she also needed Modules II and IV. The group assured that we would go back to Module II after the other testing was completed. Happily, before we got started, one of my workshop students, Katya Rodriguez, UCLA, informed that she had passed Modules I and II, so we dubbed her a fellow Musketeer. Needing some help, I asked David and Andee Alexander, C.P.M., A.P.P., Saddleback Valley CA Unified School District, to assist. They immediately agreed. We all promised to lead the applause in Austin. We started in May. Almost immediately, we encountered Year-End Close-Out, family illnesses, and other hurdles. When I wondered if our plan was disintegrating, I was assured that these were just little bugs on the windshield of life. Meanwhile, Paula continued so that she could complete Module II before the group re-formed in June. With Kathy’s assistance, Paula passed. When we regrouped, we went off at a blistering pace. Some couldn’t keep up, but the five core Musketeers stuck with the program. Our game plan has worked beautifully, and – as of this writing – we need only one person to pass Module IV and one to pass Module III. We will then add five new certified professionals to NAEP. And those who passed all tests have committed to “paying it forward” by assisting their sister Musketeers and others. Stay tuned. With the great “All for one and one for all” attitude, one of the Musketeers may start a new session. Study Groups will lead you to your C.P.M.
