Plans for a New NAEYC Leadership Development Program A Message from the Cochairs of the Advisory Council on NAEYC Advancement, Josué Cruz Jr. and Karen Ponder We are pleased to cochair an important fund-raising initiative, the Building a Lasting Legacy Campaign, that will provide the increased resources that NAEYC needs to be innovative and effective in shaping our field’s future. Our sincere thanks to the donors who have already helped us successfully launch the campaign with their gifts and pledges. Planning is under way for an exciting new program to develop future leaders for the early childhood field. Launching in 2009, a pilot fellowship program will build on the leadership opportunities that NAEYC currently offers. Through this proposed two-year fellowship program, NAEYC will grow and cultivate a new cadre of diverse early childhood education leaders, especially from underrepresented populations: persons from diverse racial and ethnic groups as well as teachers, family child care providers, program administrators, child care resource and referral counselors, faculty, and trainers. NAEYC will also invite representatives from fields linked to early childhood education, such as business, nonprofit management, and policy making, to participate. Contributions to the Building a Lasting Legacy Campaign will help to make this fellowship program a reality.
